The "Root" of the problem

The right side of the 15 green at White Wing has been habitually wet. We had drainage installed this summer and plugged balls are still occurring this time of year. Most recent investigation found the drain line toward the native to have been crushed and full of feeder roots from the surrounding area bushes and small trees near the native. The contractor this summer did not remove and replace the pipe in this area. Hopefully this will help with the water logged soil as it can now drain. If it persist we will add additional fingers to the herring bone drainage in place in that area to collect more water.

Poa annua - Our arch enemy this time of year

It is that time of year again. We are seeing the Poa annua plants on the greens and are trying to eradicate them. We have tried several chemicals, both pre and post emergent types in the past and we are continuing to look for new products and methods to prevent this plant from establishing itself. There has been a lot of research on the subject and the possibility for the plant to become chemical resistant. That is why sometimes you will see a plant that is healthy and green right next to a plant that is yellowing and hopefully getting smaller. Please be patient during this time of year and if you can, pull a plant or two while waiting on your group to putt out and close the void like a divot.

Why are the fairways cut so low?

If you notice the first picture, it shows a height cut of 5/8" to 3/4" of an inch. This picture was taken from #1 Fairway at White Wing right of the green tee boxes in an area of fairway that does not get much cart traffic if any. All of our fairway units are currently set at 3/4". In the second picture, which was taken in the center of the fairway at 100yds from the green, you can see that the grass barely reaches the 1/2" mark and is closer to 3/8". Both areas were mowed with the same mower, the same day. It is the wear from cart traffic that compacts the turf canopy which in turn makes it appear as if we cut the fairways to low or "tight".

Driving Range Mats

After listening to our resident's feedback we had the contractor who installed the mats come back out to lower the hitting mats flush with the standing areas at both LH and WW. The contractor did this at NO additional cost to us and should have this complete by the end of the week.

Adopt A Hole Captain #18 Legacy Hills

We are in need of a volunteer to take  over as a the Adopt A Hole Captain for #18 @ LH. There are currently four volunteers that will continue to support the effort but don't wish to be captains. White Wing Driving Range Mats

After opening the White Wing Driving Range Mats up for use we've noticed that there has been some settling in areas of the mats. We have contacted Southwest greens and they will be coming back out to address the mats at White Wing. They are currently installing at another course and will be here on completion of that project. (Approx. 2 weeks)
